About Kat Whitney:

Kat took her first yoga class while pregnant with her first child. That baby is now a yoga teacher in her own right and Kat’s full-on, all-in enthusiasm for yoga continues unabated.  Her passion for yoga is seasoned with a substantial grain of salt, a necessary condiment for keeping yoga practice real. After an initial fierce infatuation — aren’t we all like that when something is new, sexy and astounding? — she now experiences yoga as a powerful tool for living in a complex, ever-changing world with a naturally busy mind and a body that craves fulfillment of its kinesthetic blueprint.

An intrepid learner, Kat has studied with Bikram and Rajashree Choudhury, Diane Ducharme, Baron BaptisteKrishna Das, Sharon Saltzberg, David Magone, Sally KemptonDharma Mittra and Marc St. Pierre. Her primary spiritual teacher is His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama,  and she frequents workshops and teaching withLama Migmar Tseten, the Buddhist chaplain at Harvard University.  She continually  explores all eight limbs of yoga and gratefully acknowledges the influence and support of her many teachers, both inside and outside the discipline of yoga.

Formerly the director of Bikram Yoga Ipswich and Ipswich River Yoga in Ipswich, MA, Kat has served as the managing partner at Ananda Shanti Yoga in Manchester by the Sea, MA and has taught at studios throughout the Boston area for the past 15 years.  She currently teaches yoga in Salem and Stockbridge, leads Yoga Teacher Trainings and Retreats, and writes and educates about health, wellness, yoga and the dharma via her blog and the DHARMA COACH FACE BOOK page. She is completing certification with iPEC (The Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching ) to become a Life Potentials Coach specializing in life transition, including health and wellness coaching to support that big shift. Her personal practice, in the world and on the mat, is at the center of her life, parenting and teaching. She has strong interests in progressive nutrition, like to lift heavy and is a life-long equestrian. A former high school English, History and Theatre Arts teacher, Kat holds an Ed.M from Harvard University.
