Join us for a wonderful Meet the Artist event! Meet and chat with several local authors and artists, who are on hand to discuss their creative process and showcase their work on Saturday, June 20th, from 2pm-4pm in the Side Parlor.

Featuring local artists:

Erin McHugh, A former publishing executive and award-winning author of over 25 books, Erin’s most recent works include What My Father Always Said and Good Book for a Bad Day.

Jana Laiz, The first Writer-In-Residence at Herman Melville’s Arrowhead, Jana is working on a biography of Herman Melville for children. Jana is the author of Elephants of the Tsunami, award-winning novel, Weeping Under This Same Moon, the co-author of A Free Woman On God’s Earth, The True Story of Elizabeth “Mumbet” Freeman, The Slave Who Won Her Freedom and Moonbeam Silver Medal Winner, The Twelfth Stone. Jana is writing the sequel toThe Twelfth Stone. She has also teamed up with The Red Lion Inn’s Jayne Church to write a book about the Inn’s feline ambassador, Simon. She will read from the new anthology,Writing Fire – An Anthology Celebrating the Power of Women’s Words.

Stephanie Abrams, Stephanie’s first novel,RUMORS, has received 5-star reviews and enthusiastic critiques from book reviewers. Stephanie is a globally recognized travel expert, rated one of the 100 Most Powerful Women in Travel. The executive producer and host of nationally syndicated travel radio shows, Stephanie has appeared on CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, BBC1 Radio, BBC1 TV and Ireland’s RTE 1 & 2 and News Talk Radio. She has been a contributing journalist for WhereNY, Travel Host, FIDO Friendly Magazine, and ‘travel girl.’ Abrams is a motivational speaker and does trainings for travel, tourism and hospitality organizations including travel seminars at the NYTimes Travel Show.

Kevin Larkin, Author ofBaseball in the Bay State, Kevin served as a police officer in Great Barrington for 23 years. Kevin’s book Gehrig: Game by Game, is being published shortly. He will read a selection from one of his books.

Kevin O’Hara, Born in Ireland and raised in Pittsfield, Kevin’s works include,Lucky Irish Lad and Last of the Donkey Pilgrims. Kevin is working on a third book expected to be published in 2016.

Diane Kavanaugh Black, Diane is collaborating with co-author Annette Kavanaugh on, Don’t Just Survive–Flourish! Wellness and Work Flow, a book about mindfulness and creative practice in the form of essays in dialogue. Due out in July. A Kripalu-trained yoga teacher, passionate hiker, photographer and instructor in healthy cooking Diane runs the business, Of-the-Essence Holistic Wellness. 

Jan Hutchinson, Jan has published two collections: Poems of Prayer and Heresyin 2008 and Raggedy Prayers and Crooked Ladders in 2013. Both books feature whimsical drawings by Chet Kalm. Jan has been on the Berkshire Festival of Women Writers organizing committee for several years, serving as the Program Coordinator for the 2014 Festival.

About Kat Whitney:

Kat took her first yoga class while pregnant with her first child. That baby is now a yoga teacher in her own right and Kat’s full-on, all-in enthusiasm for yoga continues unabated.  Her passion for yoga is seasoned with a substantial grain of salt, a necessary condiment for keeping yoga practice real. After an initial fierce infatuation — aren’t we all like that when something is new, sexy and astounding? — she now experiences yoga as a powerful tool for living in a complex, ever-changing world with a naturally busy mind and a body that craves fulfillment of its kinesthetic blueprint.

An intrepid learner, Kat has studied with Bikram and Rajashree ChoudhuryDiane DucharmeBaron BaptisteKrishna DasSharon SaltzbergDavid MagoneSally Kempton , Dharma Mittra and Marc St. Pierre. Her primary spiritual teacher is His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama,  and she frequents workshops and teaching withLama Migmar Tseten, the Buddhist chaplain at Harvard University.  She continually  explores all eight limbs of yoga and gratefully acknowledges the influence and support of her many teachers, both inside and outside the discipline of yoga.

Formerly the director of Bikram Yoga Ipswich and Ipswich River Yoga in Ipswich, MA, Kat has served as the managing partner at Ananda Shanti Yoga in Manchester by the Sea, MA and has taught at studios throughout the Boston area for the past 15 years.  She currently teaches yoga in Salem and Stockbridge, leads Yoga Teacher Trainings and Retreats, and writes and educates about health, wellness, yoga and the dharma via her blog and theDHARMA COACH FACE BOOK page. She is completing certification with iPEC (The Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching ) to become a Life Potentials Coach specializing in life transition, including health and wellness coaching to support that big shift. Her personal practice, in the world and on the mat, is at the center of her life, parenting and teaching. She has strong interests in progressive nutrition, like to lift heavy and is a life-long equestrian. A former high school English, History and Theatre Arts teacher, Kat holds an Ed.M from Harvard University.
