On a quiet village corner . . .
A pretty yellow house on the corner of Maple and Elm, the house that we call Two Maple Street, was built around 1830. The home changed hands many times during its early history. The last owner was Mr. George Anderson, who called it home for more than 40 years.
The spacious Wilder Suite, including an old-fashioned knotty pine kitchen, dining room, living room, three-season porch and luxurious bathroom, fills the first floor. Two cozy suites with separate sitting rooms and porches occupy the upstairs. Original doors, hardware and moldings bring character and authenticity to the renovation. The suites are named for Thornton Wilder, Sinclair Lewis, and Robert Sherwood, American playwrights who all frequented Stockbridge and the Inn.
It's a pleasant walk from Two Maple Street to the Main Inn and a short drive to Tanglewood, the Berkshire Theatre Festival or many other Berkshire attractions.
Don't have a pet of your own?
Spend the night with Necco in the Wilder Suite!
Travelers with a longing for some feline companionship with their cozy New England accommodations can take advantage of The Red Lion Inn's new "Cat Suite" this winter. The suite's main attraction is "Necco," a slightly finicky but affectionate black and white cat who has taken up part-time residency at the inn. Necco, who is three-years old and housebroken, is on-hand to greet guests when they check into a suite in one of The Red Lion's guesthouses, adjacent to the main inn. On those occasions when the suite is empty or is occupied by a non cat-person, Necco spends the night with his friend, Nancy Fitzpatrick, The Red Lion's president. The Cat Suite is priced at $195 per night ($270 on weekends). To make a reservation, telephone 413 298-1690.
