At The Red Lion Inn, community and sustainability are in our DNA. They are part of who we are as a company and a culture. As a historic inn in the Berkshire region, we are committed to running our luxury hotel in a way that respects the historical value of the property and the environment. We set high standards for efficiency, re-use and green products.  We are integrally linked with our community in many ways, and take our social responsibility seriously. We celebrate the bounty of The Berkshires through local sourcing and partnerships with numerous Berkshire organizations in the worlds of preservation, art, music, human services, agriculture and education.

The Red Lion Inn began composting this fall. Massachusetts passed a law requiring businesses that produce one ton of food waste annually to compost rather than send food waste to a landfill. The Inn immediately complied, setting up compost bins right away. We now send our food waste to a local farm for composting.

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection came by the Inn to see how we have changed our food waste policy.
