Back in early 1900, a series of 12 short tales were published on the Sunday menus of the Inn. These were to better acquaint the guests with some of the interesting facts about the antiques and the historical events of The Red Lion Inn as told by the lion himself, thus known as, “The Lion’s Tales.” The interest in these stories were so great that in 1929 they were published in one booklet. In 1944, a few more tales were added resulting in a total of 19.
In 2001, a contest with a prize of a night’s stay at The Red Lion Inn, was offered to encourage guests to share their experiences, real or imagined, and then produced as “Bedtime Story” booklets left on the pillows at turndown. Over 100 of these stories have been compiled.
We carry the tradition forward with a new “Lion’s Tales” edition, a single book of tales submitted entirely by our imaginative guests. May their stories preserve the creativity and history of The Red Lion Inn and be enjoyed by generations to follow.
