Michael Nock works at the Boston Symphony Orchestra as Interim Director of Artistic Planning for the Boston Pops, where his duties include advising Keith Lockhart on programs and talent, producing concerts, contracting artists, building the season schedule, overseeing logistics and arrangements for artists, and both long- and short-range financial planning and analysis. Prior to his current position, he worked at the Tanglewood Music Center (the Boston Symphony’s summer academy for advanced musical training) from 1999-2022, beginning as seasonal staff member—first as an intern and then printed programs manager/annotator—before joining full-time as Manager of Student Affairs, ultimately assuming the role of Dean of Fellows and finally Interim Director.  Michael holds a master’s degree in music history from Boston University and served as a faculty member of Dean Junior College for five years. He has lectured and written on music extensively for a variety of organizations, including the BSO (in both Boston and Tanglewood) and the Houston Symphony, and during the pandemic was writer and producer of six short video features that appeared on the BSONOW platform.  From 2017-2021 he served as host of the radio program “Tuesdays with the TMC” on WMHT radio. He makes his home in both Brookline, MA, and Tyringham, MA, with his wife Chelsea.
