Everything To Know Before Visiting The Norman Rockwell Museum

No visit to Stockbridge is complete without a visit to the Norman Rockwell Museum. As one of the Berkshires top attractions, this 36-acre campus features free gallery talks, seasonal events, and engaging special exhibitions featuring everything from presidential elections to Hilary Knight’s Eloise to the civil rights movement. Here’s everything you need to know as you plan your visit to the historic Norman Rockwell Museum

NORMAN ROCKWELL HISTORY

Founded in 1969 with the help of Normal and Molly Rockwell, the museum is dedicated to the enjoyment and study of Rockwell’s work as well as his contributions to culture and society. It houses the world’s largest and most significant collection of Rockwell’s work including 998 original paintings and drawings. As Rockwell’s home for the last 25 years of his life, the town of Stockbridge held a special place in Rockwell’s heart. In fact, many of Rockwell’s world-renowned images were drawn from the surrounding area and its residents.

NORMAN ROCKWELL EXHIBITIONS

While the museum’s exhibitions do rotate depending on the season, they consistently feature works such as Rockwell’s drawings, highlights from their permanent collection, and Rockwell’s seasonal paintings. The museum also showcases special visiting exhibitions on a wide range of topics including belonging, community, race, pandemics, iconic historical works, and more. Visit to view these feature exhibitions or be inspired by the classic Norman Rockwell Museum artworks present in their permanent collection.
